Mass Timber refers to a category of engineered wood products, primarily mass timber panels—such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), Dowel-Laminated Timber (DLT), and Nail-Laminated Timber (NLT) combined with timber posts or beams like Glued Laminated Timber (GLT), Parallam, and Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL). Mass Timber excludes glulam-only structures, traditionally known as “Heavy Timber,” a segment that has existed for centuries but has not seen the same growth as Mass Timber in North America.
It primarily focuses on structural panels that either function independently in hybrid structures or integrate with timber beams and columns. This approach is driving a significant shift in the construction industry, combining sustainability, resilience, and aesthetic appeal, especially for large-scale and multi-story projects.
At Ergodomus Timber Engineering, we have been engineering Mass Timber for over 17 years. Our expertise includes structural analysis, connection design, and BIM integration for complex Mass Timber projects. Leveraging Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), we ensure precision, durability, and optimized performance in every Mass Timber structure we deliver.
These pictures from our TRCA project perfectly show the beauty and versatility of Mass Timber. Take a look at the project here.
