A Tailor-Made Timber Extension for Ronca Clothing Store
This 13-year-old project exemplifies how timber construction aligns with the principles of customization and efficiency. Designed as an extension to an existing brick and concrete building, the renowned Ronca Clothing Store spans 27m x 11m with a height of 10m, offering two functional levels.
Why Timber Was Chosen
As one of the most famous clothing stores in the region, Ronca demanded absolute perfection to uphold their impeccable brand image. Timber was selected for two key reasons:
- Speed of Assembly – With a tight deadline to open in time for the wedding season, timber’s rapid construction process was essential.
- Lightweight Structure – The existing concrete warehouse below required minimal additional load, and timber provided a light yet robust solution.
Engineering Highlights
- Seamless Integration: A detailed structural analysis ensured the new timber structure harmoniously integrated with the existing geometry, avoiding clashes and maximizing efficiency.
- Innovative Slab Design: The intermediate floor utilized a multibox slab system with GLT beams and structural LVL, allowing air ducts to be discreetly routed within the slab. This design saved space and eliminated unsightly visible ductwork, enhancing the store’s interior aesthetics.
- Efficient Materials: Walls were constructed from CLT panels, while the roof employed a traditional timber system with rafters and a ridge beam, balancing performance and cost.
Tailored Timber for a Tailored Experience
Just as Ronca offers tailor-made garments to satisfy its customers, the bespoke timber structure was engineered to meet the client’s specific needs. This alignment of values between construction and retail highlights the flexibility and precision timber offers, ensuring that both the building and the store’s offerings are perfectly crafted to delight their clientele.
