The Conad supermarket in Finale Emilia, completed over in 2014, spans an area of approximately 2000 m², designed as a single-story structure with a maximum height of 7.3 meters. The building features a flat roof supported by a carefully engineered timber structure, showcasing the efficiency of Mass Timber for commercial applications.
Following a devastating earthquake in the region, Conad prioritized the rapid reconstruction of its supermarket to serve the community. Timber was chosen as the primary material due to its speed of assembly, allowing the new supermarket to be completed in record time while ensuring structural safety and resilience.
The design process focused on creating a functional and efficient space, addressing wide spans and durability. This project highlights the potential of timber for large-scale commercial buildings, delivering a balance of speed, practicality, and sustainability in construction.
