Rebuilding Cavezzo’s Municipal Gym: A Symbol of Resilience After the 2012 Earthquake
The village of Cavezzo, one of the many communities in Emilia severely affected by the 2012 earthquake, saw extensive damage to public and private facilities. Among these was the municipal gym, a 1950s structure so heavily damaged that total demolition became necessary.
Tasked with designing and engineering the new gym, Ergodomus created a modern and resilient structure that reflects the community’s determination to rebuild. The gym features impressive beams over 30 meters long, crafted as single pieces, demonstrating the capabilities of timber engineering in delivering strength and elegance.
This project not only restored an essential community facility but also exemplified the potential of timber construction to combine sustainability with structural performance in the face of seismic challenges.
